The Nature of Mirrors |
|
Mirrors to most people
are just glass painted on one side that when looking into the un-painted
side you can see the reflection of yourself in. But to those who study the
arcane arts they are much more.
This device is a
specialty crafted and Enchanted. (Craft Mirror).
Mirrors come in two types: Flat &
Curved. They each have similar properties and operate nearly the same
but the results can be far different.
Only a
very few can craft curved glass into a mirror and fewer still can manipulate flat glass without going
insane. |
|
Curved Mirrors: Curved mirrors are
the easiest to create. With these mirrors the enchanter visualize a
location and can look then see and here what is going on at that
location. Once visualized the location of the mirror is locked forever.
The mirror can be commanded with a single command word to revert back to
looking like a normal mirror otherwise it always shows the location it
is locked to. Although you can move the location slightly in any of the
3 dimension at the location, up to a # of feet = to your intelligence.
You can also rotate your view 360 degrees.
Any person or object who touches the mirror side of the glass will be translated to
the target location. Whether willing or not. There is no resist check to avoid the affect of the
mirror.
If someone is
trying to force you to touch the mirror you can resist them, but if you
touch the mirror you will be translated by the mirror. Resisting someone
being forced is usually an acrobatics or Strength check, sometimes a
grapple check. Anyone touching the person touching the mirror gets
translated also. |
|
Flat Mirrors: These mirrors are made and operate exactly as
Curved mirrors. The difference is that a Visionary can pull willing or
unwilling objects, creatures or persons through the mirror to their
location. Those who are not visionaries who attempt this go insane. |
|
Crafting a Mirror uses the
Employment (Craft Mirror) Skill. To enchant the mirror you need to have
the glass craft as per the type you are making either curved glass or
flat glass and to the skill level needed.

Translatorium:
This guild/school is
dedicated to the study and use of mirrors. Many use them to seek
knowledge or power as well. The elders are the 3 most senior members of
the Translatorium. |
|
The Elders at the
Translatorium teach the making and use of mirrors. |
|
Visionaries:
Are the only ones who can use flat glass and not go insane after doing
so. They can also sense when a mirror is that targets an area is on,
even if the mirror is not being used. Advanced Visionaries can also use
that mirror to translate themselves in front of the mirror. Finally
those who few who become True Visionaries can completely manipulate and
change the locations viewed for short times of any mirror they are in
front of. This includes for the truly gifted a mirror that they sense
and can manipulate remotely. |

Some
Facts about Mirrors
Actually
the reason vampires cannot be seen in mirrors is because the mirrors
reflect souls and vampires, being the undead, had no souls (nothing to
do with silver etc). This is also the reason it's bad luck to break
mirrors (breaks the part of your soul captured in it - your soul
regenerates every seven years,
This is why people covered them when people died in the house (to
prevent souls being captured) and why they used to say mirrors always
show the true face (showing the soul, not the outward appearance).
